Perdido Key is sixteen miles of barrier island between Orange Beach and Pensacola, and more than half of it is protected ground — Gulf Islands National Seashore on the east end, Perdido Key State Park in the middle. What is buildable is a narrow band of private lots where scrub oak, palmetto, and pine grow salt-tough and dense, and where every clearing job happens close to a property line, a dune line, or both.
That is the work we do here: lot clearing and mulching sized for tight coastal parcels, underbrush knocked back for visibility and fire safety around existing homes, and demolition and debris handling when storm-worn structures come down. EMCO is based twenty minutes up the road in Elberta — the Key sits between our shop and Pensacola, not at the end of anyone’s route.

Coastal lots come with rules the inland ones do not — dune protections, vegetation and setback requirements, and permitting that changes depending on where the parcel sits. We do not pretend to be your permit office, but we work clean inside whatever the parcel’s approvals allow: clearing the building envelope and leaving flagged vegetation standing, mulching instead of scraping where ground cover has to stay, and keeping equipment off the ground that is not ours to disturb.
The island’s soil is sand, and sand moves when it loses its cover. Mulching leaves a protective layer that holds the surface through the next blow, which is why it is usually the right call on the Key even when bare-dirt clearing is allowed.
The Key knows storms — Hurricane Sally in 2020 rearranged big pieces of it, and every season since has tested the rebuild. After a blow, the work is downed pines and oaks off structures and drives, debris cut, staged, and hauled, and lots cleaned so repair crews can work. We answer around the clock in season and run equipment down from Elberta the same day when access allows.
Between storms, the smart money is prevention: dead and leaning pines taken down before they choose their own schedule, and overgrown lots cut back so they are not fuel and not hiding what the next inspection will flag.
