Most Tillmans Corner lots come out of the same pine flatwoods, and the recipe is proven: clear the pines and underbrush, grub the stumps, strip the organic layer that won't carry weight, then build the pad up with compacted fill so the slab sits on firm dry ground instead of old root mat. On acreage off Three Notch or McDonald Road, we phase it — clear the homesite and drive first, mulch the back acres into a clean understory, and leave the timber you want standing.
