Gulf Shores is sand, water, and wind. Build anything on the island or out the Fort Morgan peninsula and you're working with loose sandy soil, a water table you hit a few feet down, and a flood map that decides how high everything has to sit. Excavation on the coast is a different animal than it is thirty miles inland, and it doesn't forgive guessing.
EMCO Builders has dug on this coast for more than 30 years, through Ivan and Sally and every season since. We excavate for footings and pilings in sand that wants to cave, haul in fill to bring low lots up toward flood elevation, cut drainage so a flat coastal lot sheds a downpour, and clear storm debris when the Gulf leaves a mess. Licensed Alabama home builder #13967, and we answer at (251) 747-7839 any hour, which matters when the weather turns.

Sandy coastal soil won't hold a wall. Dig a footing trench on the island and the sides slump, and hit the water table and you're pumping before you can pour. We know where the water sits along the beach and out toward Fort Morgan, and we dig, shore, and dewater so the concrete crew has a clean hole to work in instead of a collapsing wet one.
Pilings are the coastal standard for a reason, and we do the excavation and site work around them: clearing the pad, cutting the fill to grade, and setting the ground up for the piling rig. On lots that sit low we bring in sand and fill to raise them toward base flood elevation, because on the coast the dirt work and the flood map are the same conversation.
Flat sandy lots near the beach don't drain the way you'd think. Water ponds on the hardpan and sits, so we cut swales and set culverts to move it off the lot toward the right outfall. For the driveway, poured concrete cracks as sand shifts under it, so a lot of coastal owners run shell or limerock drives that flex and drain, and we build those too.
When a storm hits Gulf Shores it hits hard. Ivan and Sally both came ashore near here, and every hurricane season since has put sand, water, and trees where they don't belong. We clear it and haul it, and we start when you call, not when the calendar says so. Twenty-four hours, every day.
